The National Flood Insurance Program was created as part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency in 1973 to provide flood insurance to property owners who had risk from flooding to buildings and contents nationwide. Each property was determined to be either high risk (A or V zones) or low to moderate risk (B, C, or X zones). See About the NFIP on www.Floodsmart.gov

The Florida Condominium Act requires owners to provide proof of hazard insurance policy every year, each policy must contain a “loss assessment” limit of at least $2,000.00. If an owner fails to provide proof of hazard insurance on their unit the Condo Association may buy the insurance on their behalf and bill the cost to the condo owner. PIP is again required for drivers in Florida effective January 1, 2008.
